FREEDOM PARK AMPHITHEATER
Location: San Antonio, Texas
Completion Date: Spring 2018
During the spring of 2018, we completed one of the largest shade projects that we’ve done—a custom built amphitheater shade structure over Freedom Park Amphitheater at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston. Returning Heroes Home was instrumental in getting funding and approval to make this project possible. It took over a year of planning and working alongside the developer, various architects, structural engineers and general contractors to turn this idea into a reality.
Providing over 12,000 square feet of shade coverage, this canopy is as impressive as it is functional. The amphitheater is used for meetings, cookouts, movies, and concerts for military members and their families as they receive treatment at Brooke Army Medical Center which is also on the base. The custom amphitheater structure keeps everyone out of the sun and helps lower temperatures by 10-20 degrees. It also allows the amphitheater to be used throughout the day instead of just the early hours now that it is completely shaded.
Freedom Park Amphitheater is open for use year-round on the Warrior and Family Support Center campus. The amphitheater had a re-dedication ceremony held on May 17, 2018, shortly after the structure was completed.
