Commercial Shade Structures
What Commercial Shade Structures Are
A commercial shade structure is a permanently installed overhead system built to protect people, vehicles, animals, or equipment from direct sun and heat. These are not temporary tents or residential-grade covers. Commercial systems are engineered for higher loads, larger spans, and constant exposure to the elements. They go through a proper design process, use industrial materials, and are built to code.
ShadePro’s commercial structures use premium powder-coated steel frames and commercial-grade shade fabric with manufacturer-backed warranties that vary by product. Steel frames are engineered to meet site-specific load requirements and carry warranty coverage on completed structures. The EPA’s UV Index scale classifies levels above 8 as Very High to Extreme, a level that’s routine across central Texas from late spring through early fall. That kind of sustained exposure is exactly what our systems are built for.
Every project starts with a site visit and free estimate. We handle design, fabrication at our facility, and installation from start to finish.
How We Engineer Commercial Shade Structures So They Hold Up
Here’s how ShadePro approaches the engineering side of a commercial install.
- Footings and anchors are sized to the structure. A small patio canopy and a 10-post dealership lot cover have very different load requirements. We calculate footing depth and anchor diameter based on the span, the fabric tension load, and the soil conditions at your specific site. Expansive clay soils common in parts of the Hill Country need a different footing spec than sandy or caliche-heavy ground closer to the IH-35 corridor.
- Uplift and lateral bracing matter on large spans. When wind hits a wide shade structure, the fabric acts like a sail. Our frame design accounts for both the downward load and the uplift forces that try to pull the structure out of the ground. Lateral bracing is added where spans require it to prevent racking under wind load.
- Fabric tensioning and ponding prevention are part of every design. Improperly tensioned fabric sags, holds water, and fails early. We tension our systems correctly from the start and pitch fabric where needed so water runs off rather than pooling.
- Powder coat protects the steel. Central Texas heat and humidity accelerate corrosion on exposed steel. Our frames use a powder coat finish over primed steel that resists UV degradation, humidity, and surface rust over the life of the structure.
- HydroVac is used when subsurface conditions are unknown. Before we dig footings at commercial sites, we use HydroVac excavation to safely expose underground utilities and confirm soil conditions. It reduces the risk of hitting lines and gives us a clear look at what we’re anchoring into before we commit to a footing design.
Our Commercial Shade Structure Process
Site Evaluation and Estimate. We come out to your property, measure the space, assess sun angles and coverage priorities, review soil and site conditions, and talk through your goals. You get a clear estimate before anything moves forward.
Design and Engineering. Our team produces a custom design for your site, including 3D modeling so you can see the finished structure before we break ground. For commercial projects, this phase includes any required engineering documentation.
Permitting Support. Permit needs vary by scope and jurisdiction. We’ll walk you through what your project may require and provide the engineering documentation that commercial projects typically need.
Fabrication. Your structure is built at our facility right here in New Braunfels, TX. Because we manufacture in-house, we control quality and timeline without depending on outside vendors.
Installation and Closeout. Our crew handles the full installation. We clean up the site when we’re done and walk you through the finished structure. For projects requiring closeout documentation, we provide what’s needed.

When You Need a Commercial Shade Structure
Commercial clients usually reach out when a specific problem has gotten expensive enough to fix properly. Here’s what we hear most often from businesses in the New Braunfels area.
- Customers, employees, or guests are avoiding outdoor areas because of the heat
- Vehicles or equipment are sitting in full sun and taking damage over time
- A playground or outdoor recreation area is unusable during peak hours
- Your facility needs to meet shade requirements for licensing or compliance
- An outdoor seating area, waiting zone, or common space isn’t generating the use it should
- You’ve patched the problem with temporary solutions that keep failing
- A new construction or renovation project needs shade built in from the start
If your commercial property has an outdoor space problem, a permanent shade structure is usually the most cost-effective fix. We offer estimates and will come out to evaluate your site.
